چکیده

Background: Animal spinal cord injury (SCI) models have provided a better perception of the mechanisms related to traumatic SCI and evaluation effectiveness experimental therapeutic interventions. Objectives: The aim this study is develop cost-effective modified Allen's device induce contusive injury. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were subjected using customized weight drop model through 10-g weights delivered from 25-mm height onto an exposed cord. Locomotor sensory function during 28 days assessed. Moreover, histopathological changes assessed at one week post SCI. Results: All showed hind limb paralysis up 48 h neuropathic pain after Histological similar previous reports for contusion observed. Conclusions: According our findings, little variability was observed in BBB score individual Our simple inexpensive alternative method highly sophisticated commonly used

Gain and loss of functional locomotor recovery following contusive spinal cord injury in the adult rat

GAIN AND LOSS OF FUNCTIONAL LOCOMOTOR RECOVERY FOLLOWING CONTUSIVE SPINAL CORD INJURY IN THE ADULT RAT Krista Layne Caudle November 14,2012 Activity-based rehabilitation in the form of overground or body weightsupported treadmill (BWST) locomotor step training has become the most widely accepted therapy translated from preclinical animal research to spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. However, l...

Myelin gene expression after experimental contusive spinal cord injury.

After incomplete traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI), the spared tissue exhibits abnormal myelination that is associated with reduced or blocked axonal conductance. To examine the molecular basis of the abnormal myelination, we used a standardized rat model of incomplete SCI and compared normal uninjured tissue with that after contusion injury. We evaluated expression of mRNA for myelin proteins...

Graded histological and locomotor outcomes after spinal cord contusion using the NYU weight-drop device versus transection.

Injury reproducibility is an important characteristic of experimental models of spinal cord injuries (SCI) because it limits the variability in locomotor and anatomical outcome measures. Recently, a more sensitive locomotor rating scale, the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan scale (BBB), was developed but had not been tested on rats with severe SCI complete transection. Rats had a 10-g rod dropped ...

The swimming test is effective for evaluating spasticity after contusive spinal cord injury

Spasticity is a frequent chronic complication in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the severity of spasticity varies in patients with SCI. Therefore, an evaluation method is needed to determine the severity of spasticity. We used a contusive SCI model that is suitable for clinical translation. In this study, we examined the feasibility of the swimming test and an EMG for evalu...

Development of a Rat Model of Graded Contusive Spinal Cord Injury Using a Pneumatic Impact Device

An animal model of spinal cord trauma is essential for understanding the injury mechanisms, cord regeneration, and to aid the development of new therapeutic modalities. This study focused on the development of a graded experimental contusion model for spinal cord injury (SCI) using a pneumatic impact device made in Korea. A contusive injury was made to the dorsal aspect of the cord. Three traum...
